"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

This painting is vibrant and captivating. Its main color is a bold, lemon yellow. The figure in the painting is depicted with a rounded, voluptuous form. She is seated, her back to the viewer. Her hair is rendered as a series of loops, adding a playful touch. Dark green lines energetically swirl around her, creating a dynamic background. This contrast highlights the figure even more. The style is expressive, focusing on form and emotion rather than precise details. Kristina Česonytė's use of vivid colors and exaggerated shapes gives the work a lively, almost whimsical quality. It's both modern and expressive, inviting interpretation and reflection.
