Artwork in the room
"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+
The painting features a vivid red figure of a tiger at its center. It has a rather expressive style, emphasizing motion and emotion through abrupt, sweeping brush strokes. Hints of green and blue lightly touch the tiger’s form and specks of color scatter across the white background. Kristina Česonytė uses a unique way of painting. Her approach mixes freedom with a hint of structure, creating an interesting tension. The style seems wild and fierce, much like the subject. Overall, this artwork catches the eye, and its texture adds depth to its simple, powerful visual message.
