"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

In this painting by Kristina Česonytė, titled "Life," we see two figures drawn in a distinctive, abstract form. The taller figure stands over a vibrant orange table, leaning forward, with a heavy, fluid-like black shape as its head. A smaller figure is seated off to the side, composed of simpler lines. The artist uses bold outlines and plays with contrasts. Bright pinks and oranges stand out against a textured golden background. The style is minimal yet expressive, capturing an interaction that seems both intimate and mysterious. Kristina Česonytė is known for such intriguing, abstract depictions, where she explores human forms and emotions through simplified, powerful visual language.
