"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting captures a vibrant scene of kite surfers gliding over a lively sea. The sky, rendered in a rich, deep blue, serves as a dramatic backdrop for three oversized, brightly colored kite sails—red, dark blue, and yellow—are prominent against the darker hue, almost pulsating with energy, each connected by thin lines to tiny figures below. These kite surfers, painted as small, dynamic forms, harness the power of the wind, their movements creating splashes across the textured, choppy surface of the water, depicted in tones of blue and white, which reflects light and enhances the feeling of a bustling marine environment. The lower part of the artwork, lighter at the horizon, suggests a distant shoreline washed in softer, muted colors, providing a sense of depth and scale to the scene. The artist's palette knife technique adds a sense of immediacy and rawness to the water, which contrasts with the smooth expanse of the sky.
