"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting shows a vibrant, red church set against a blue and grey background of swirling lines, possibly representing the sky. The foreground is bright yellow, suggesting a lively ground or vegetation. The church itself is simple but adorned with thoughtful details like windows and a central spire. Kristina Česonytė’s style here is playful and expressive. She uses bold, outlined forms and a contrasting color palette to create a striking image. The lines are almost childlike in their freedom and simplicity, suggesting motion and energy. It feels both whimsical and profound, as if inviting the viewer to contemplate the scene in a light-hearted yet meaningful way.
