"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting captures a dramatic and turbulent sky, swirling with thick, textured strokes of blue and white paint, suggesting the churning clouds of an approaching storm. This dynamic sky takes up the majority of the canvas, underscoring the tension and energy of a storm about to break. Below this tumultuous heavens, a serene and brightly lit green field stretches quietly across the scene. The field is painted in vivid shades of green and yellow, indicating patches of sunlight illuminating the grass despite the ominous weather overhead. The horizon is marked by a thin, dark line, possibly a distant row of trees or a far-off hill, adding a sense of depth and contrast between the earth and the sky. The painting encapsulates a moment of nature's quietude juxtaposed with its power, rendered in a rich, impasto technique that adds texture and movement.
