"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

This painting shows various shapes and figures that resemble parts of cat faces and bodies. They appear as abstract and floating forms against a black-and-white background. The lines outlining the shapes are playful and bold, drawn in blues, pinks, and whites, with splashes of green dots. Kristina Česonytė's style in this artwork feels spontaneous and energetic. She combines free-form shapes with vivid lines to create a sense of movement and life. The use of contrasting colors and outlines makes the features pop, emphasizing the theme of the painting. Overall, Česonytė's artwork is visually striking, capturing the essence of playfulness and curiosity often associated with cats.
